Joshua Barer

Josh Barer is Managing Director of Hibiscus Capital Management, as well as Barer & Son Capital, where he helps to build and fund cutting-edge biotechnology companies aimed at developing new therapies for patients with significant unmet medical needs. Josh is also a Venture Advisor at Israel Biotech Fund and a Director at Asclepix Therapeutics (focused on development of a novel peptide for retinal diseases).

Josh’s philanthropy and volunteer work are focused on interfaith peacebuilding and economic development. In addition to Friends of Givat Haviva, he is on the board of Family Promise (focused on addressing family homelessness in the US) and the Executive Advisory Board of Drew University’s Center on Religion, Culture, and Conflict. Josh formerly served on the boards of Trickle Up (focused on economic empowerment of women in the developing world) and Getting Out and Staying Out Action Board (focused on addressing recidivism of young men touched by the criminal justice system in New York City).

Josh received a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College in Jewish Studies and Middle Eastern Literature (including a year at University of Haifa) and studied Conflict Management at Drew University with a focus on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
